Sorry if it seems I'm asking to be spoonfed, but I am fearful of hosing the boot process altogether. Here are the relevant lines of'menu.lst':

#boot=/dev/hda
default=0
timeout=10
splashimage= (hd1,0)/grub/splash.xpm.gz
title Red Hat Linux (2.4.7-10)
              root (hd1,0)
               kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.7-10 ro root=/dev/hdd3 hdc=ide-scsi
                initrd /initrd - 2.4.7-10.img

Should that crosshatch be present before the first line (#boot=/dev/hda) ??

i dunno, i'm not a grub user, LILO is still my preference. i'd say leave it as-is for now.

When you say to edit this file, where would I put the "appropriate lines" and what is the syntax?

Just add what Keith provided to the bottom of the file, and you should be all set, i believe. as long as you don't remove anything, you can't cause any harm.

OK. That would be my next question. How do I fix the grub entry?

Edit /boot/grub/menu.lst and add the appropriate lines, it's that easy.
