Well, I do this same sort of thing with convert. (It's part of the imagemagick package.) convert file.ps file.jpg and then import into SO. Works fine and can be scripted. But, I would really like to know why these eps files look fine in gv but so bad in SO.
Bad? Didn't notice that. As a test, I loaded the notorious tiger.ps from the ghostscript examples into GSview, converted it to a jpeg of 300 dpi and imported this into an OO 1.1 text document - it looked and printed fine.
