You are probably correct. zlib.1.1.3-22.i386.rpm contains

libz.so.1->
liibz.so.1.3

and a few ~/share/docs

I had this issue with e2.4 when installing OpenSSx. Since Les's SxS on the 
subject advised getting zlib tarball source, it solved _that_ problem.

ssX comes installed on an RH7.1 so it's a problem waiting to bite me later.
