I checked, we use Portland Group fortran on Linux (http://www.pgroup.com/)
which apparently works quite well. I talked with a guy who has been coding
geophysical algorithms for about 25 years, and he said that he couldn't
tell any difference between C and Fortran - it all depended on the
coder and how well the optimizer worked.
I also worked a deal today so that a guy in my group can get time on
another group's 40 node cluster. Fun and games!
