The file may be in DiVX format, which is encoded and labeled AVI. On Windows I believe you have to install a shim to run this kind of file. I have not had the time to research a playeron Linux, but I sure would appreciate someone letting us know if they have found one and like it. I have a few DiVX/AVI files at home.
