vanilla kernels work fine w/ SuSE. Been using them since day one. However, 
SuSE uses a funky video mode to get the graphical boot-up. All the gory 
details are on the SuSE email list archives. Basically though, use their 
kernel if you want it.. otherwise it's a hassle to get it to work
