Aye, I'm a grubby one at that. I use GRUB and have followed the SxS to setup my ide burner. First, what distro are you running. Second, I hope you aren't using literally hd?=ide-scsi, but replacing the ? with the representation of your actual drive. IDE primary master=a IDE primary slave=b IDE secondary master=c IDE secondary slave=d and so on..
