I too was working from your initial posting, and the fact that you need
no special drivers for a dvd under 10.04.

Given that the last firmware update for this DVD is from almost 5 years
ago, it's unlikely that it hasn't been installed already. I'd check the
firmware revision first.

You'll need to install that file using windows, not linux. 

As an aside, I still use K3B even though I'm a diehard gnome user.
However, that would be a bit of an epic to download over dialup.
