Sigh! It wasn't a bad system VMS. Sadly enough the next gen system was canned, and the team working on it was absorbed by the microsoft borg. (The Good Bits about Windows NT internals came from them.)
I still tend to put a symlink on my systems from "x" to emacs, out of a VMS xedit engendered habit of saying "x fileName.c" whenever I want to edit a file. I always thought it a pity that team hadn't been absorbed by one of the *nix companies.
