Hopefully, your /home is on a separate partition.
Make a note of each username and its corresponding numerical userID.
Back-up all your files just in case something goes wrong.
Install from LiveDVD:
* Re-format all partitions EXCEPT /home.
* Do a fresh install
* When recreating each user, give each username the same numerical
userID as it had previously
* If it's not possible to keep the same userIDs, do a recursive chown on each
user's home directory (man chown) to ensure ownerships are fixed.
* If you wiped /home in error, restore from back-up
* Connect to internet and install updates
* Connect to internet and re-install any apps you had previously that didn't
get installed by default by linux mint.
This is why I like to have /home on its own partition.
