Well after Hads sent me the gear with the pfSense image already on the
CF card I followed a tutorial at
http://www.gooze.eu/howto/pfsense-installation-on-alix-board-howto

Other than stumbling with "Setting ALIX console settings to 9600 bauds"
I tried gtkterm -p /dev/ttyUSB0 -w Xon -s 9600
and followed the next steps and it was up and running in only a few minutes.
It seems that the statement "The ALIX board is configured by default for
38400 baud." may not have been correct.

Anyway I no longer need a support group for my project but I am very
happy to help others. Paula is happy to have a bit more room in our
garage once I find someone to take the IPCop box.
