Does the printer support the level of PostScript you are sending it?

Have you got the latest versions of Ghostscript and CUPS installed?
 Ghostscript 9.04
 Cups-1.5.0
 ( IMPORTANT!! )

Get hands dirty:-

First turn off the printer, and at the mains.

Turn back on after having consumed a cup of your favourite beverage.

Use the buttons on the printer to reset it.

Now for the tests:-
Does the test-page internal to the printer print correctly?
Does the test-page generated by CUPS print correctly?
Does a known good standard coloured picture file print correctly?
I'd suggest one of the images which is distributed with ghostscript.

http://svn.ghostscript.com/viewvc/trunk/gs/examples/

 a) As the root user, using the unix cat command direct to the printer?
( you may have to first load the usblp kernel module while the printer
is connected )

 b) Via Ghostscript and CUPS?

That'll do for a start. :-)
