Ha.... I started a new job last September and they where having backup issues, this lasted for about three weeks. I said to the manager that I think it'd be wise to get a suitable PC in and do a test recovery test so he could have faith in the backups and that they where being done in a proper way. Reason being the IT company that's doing IT support (think it's computer concepts and I'm not bagging them) didn't seem to be able to sort the issue out (and I don't know what the issue/s were as I'm not employed to deal with computer issues so didn't want to get involved - I'd be wanting more money than I'm being paid and I don't think they'd want to do it so the contractors deal with IT issues not me). Not happened and well could see them facing the consequences if the server does fall over. Note they already had a complete failure apparently with the loss of 10+ years of historical data (and this was another reason why i suggested that testing the backups as part of the process would be a good idea - even if it was twice a year). Oh well some folks won't learn esp. when it is business data. dave. > > Derek. > On 26/11/11 17:22, Eliot Blennerhassett wrote: > > Now that others have mentioned 'upselling' > > > > I haven't heard one salesperson mention the sad fact: > > "you're going to put a few years worth of photos etc on > > this drive, and then it *is* going to fail, so you need > some form of backup" > > > External hard drive?
