Good description of Arch.

X doesn't start up. Why?

Look in ~/.xsession-errors

Doesn't have permission to run ~/.xsession

OK, let it have it's wicked way with .xsession and .xinitrc

But no.

Look in .xinitrc, Lo, the have commented out the options to start gnome or
kde or xfce, uncomment gnome and Way Hey! We're off... not quite.

Sigh!

I have got it pretty much going now but, my, Debian/Ubuntu really does a
lot of work in the background setting things up nice.

ps: I have pretty much settled on gnome-shell as a better option than
gnome-classic and gnicer than unity.

Still Nick Rout is right, as always, what got me to Arch was the Arch wiki
seem to have a Clue about the UEFI problem I was having. (Unlike the rest
of the planet which was still stuck on the "UEFI really Sucks and has
broken my boot" phase.)
