I'd guess it was something like "cat audiofile.wav >>
/dev/sounddevice", and at some OS upgrade point /dev/sounddevice was
renamed by the system; remembering that at boot time /dev is created
and populated automatically these days, but it's still a filesystem
and you can still manually put stuff there.
