Hi all, monthly notice, September 5:

Tomorrow is the Sydenham Freenix* workshop, 7.30-9.30pm (first Wednesday of each month, February to December), at the Upper Riccarton Community Library, 71 Main South Road, Sockburn: http://christchurchcitylibraries.com/UpperRiccarton/ Sadly, the South Christchurch Library was shut down recently due to discovered earthquake risk, so we have meanwhile changed venues.

We use the modern 33-computer suite & overhead projector in these learning centres for a liveCD BYO distro show & tell, knowledge exchange & tuition on request. Notebooks are the easiest demo systems to bring. Ubuntu is the default distro used and available on the lab machines otherwise - version 12.04 is available, others on request.

This is a technical presentation space, with an open format for any FOSS-related talks people may wish to offer. We use the venue also to familiarise users for the http://www.SoftwareFreedomDay.org annual event, which is less than two weeks away: Sat 15th September. If you'd like to help out with SFD12, please attend this organising meeting tomorrow. Poster/flier here: http://www.infohelp.co.nz/sfd12.html

Workshop is also a chance to meet other *nix users, have installation questions answered & resolved, get on-line security tips, etc.

All welcome.

Kind regards,

Rik Tindall
