Mine wasn't bought for any particular provider but I use it with 2 degrees.
I got an update a month or so back which took me to 4.1.1 with no issues. I
honestly couldn't tell you what version was on it when I unboxed it,
although this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_III suggests it
would have been 4.0.4.

Bad luck, especially at tthis time of year!
