[root@x conf.d]# service httpd start
Starting httpd: httpd: Could not open configuration file
/etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf: Permission denied
                                                           [FAILED]

OK - permissions error. Easy.

[root@x conf.d]# ls -la /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 33767 Jun 20 2008 /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf

No - file is fine and identical to other centos 5 boxes.

The fix?

[root@x conf.d]# sestatus
SELinux status: enabled
SELinuxfs mount: /selinux
Current mode: enforcing
Mode from config file: enforcing
Policy version: 21
Policy from config file: targeted

[root@x conf.d]# /usr/sbin/setenforce 0

[root@x conf.d]# service httpd start
Starting httpd: [ OK ]

Useless bloody security system that offers nothing. No wonder its often
just turned off.
Yes - took me about half an hour to find it.
