Hello All,

we have a range of HP ProLiant DL380 G4 servers that are surplus to our business requirements for sale. These machines are 19" mount, IBM-compatible and fitted with some sort of Intel 64-bit CPU (Xeon something IIRC). There are half a dozen or so of them with RAM configurations from 2 to 6 GB. Discs range from smaller dual-36GB, up to a full complement of 6x300GB in one of them, all UltraSCSI 320. The servers have a hardware RAID controller that offers RAID0, RAID1+0 and RAID5. Most of the boxes have dual PSUs and redundant fans. One of them has a bunch of optical network cards in addition to the built-in dual Ethernet. They all have either USB or CD-ROM (most of them have both), so that installing Linux on them is straightforward (just trying to finally get on topic here...).

This hardware clearly is not top-notch in terms of CPU bandwidth anymore today, but they are still pretty reliable and do throw alerts if any of the parts fail, so that you can then replace the faulty part at your leisure, while the redundant bits carry on keeping operations going. Needless to say that this comes at the expense of slightly higher power consumption and noise levels than a good desktop PC would cause.

Software: none included. (We ran Windows 2003 Server on some of them, and then also RHEL on some.)

Let me know if you are interested, and I can provide more detail, or you can simply come by and take a look.

Price - we are not trying to get rich quickly here but would try to recover a little bit more than for desktop PCs of the same vintage... that being said, if you need something for the CLUG itself, or charity or school we would donate some of the hardware for a good community purpose.

Kind regards,
