According to google, you should have 3 x pci express, 2 x PCI-X and one PCI slot available. > > My immediate need for this server is to get Zoneminder installed on it > so that I have my security cameras up and running (Replacing a > vulnerable windows xp machine). Centos install instructions are available at the zoneminder wiki (http://www.zoneminder.com/wiki/index.php/CentOS).

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS or 14.04 LTS are server OS's ( LTS = long term support of 5 not one year ) and should work with your raid card. The zoneminder wiki has instructions to install from there. > > 3. Yes, I have many servers running Ubuntu, although being old and crusty it's not my weapon of choice (: > > Any advice on the best way to get started would be greatly appreciated. If you install your acquisition board ( or are you just using USB cams? If so completely ignore this ), see if the command 'lspci' run from root can see it. If not, then you've really got an uphill challenge and it might be an idea to get a live CD of the latest Ubuntu LTS and see if it can see it. That way you'll know if it's worth the effort of installing yet another OS. > > Thanks, > > Peter Simmonds If you get stuck, drop the list a line ( or me directly ) I'll do what I can.
