Samba newbie question please.
- What does client need to do to see server?
Does client have any samba packages installed?
? what does 'aptitude search smbclient' tell you?
rik@rik-HP-Compaq-dc7600:~$ aptitude search smbclient
p libfilesys-smbclient-perl - perl interface to access Samba
filesystem
i libsmbclient - shared library for communication with
SMB/CIFS servers
p libsmbclient-dev - development files for libsmbclient
p libsmbclient-raw-dev - SMB client library - development files
p libsmbclient-raw0 - SMB client library
i smbclient - command-line SMB/CIFS clients for Unix
In the Files application, click on Browse Network and you should see
the
server
Yes there's a "Windows Network" network folder present (always there?)
Clicking it gets an error: "Unable to mount location. Failed to
retrieve share list from server"
So I do have to set up the Windows server? As in, there's no native
unix networking with Samba?
- Where is client WORKGROUP set? ...
afaik both client and server workgroups are defined in
/etc/samba/smb.conf
Thank you
