Perhaps everyone on the mailing list should send an 'automated' reply to
him, saying that his email has been flagged as spam, and requesting payment
of a bit of a Bitcoin to have it delivered.

More likely, this is just a phishing expedition -- he is not subscribed to
the mailing list, but sends this email to various mailing lists, hoping
that a sucker will send him money.
