Thanks for that John, and for your volunteering. I've already had a read of the Hobart bid plus the one used for Geelong.

I emailed Linux Australia today and asked if it would be a fly in the ointment if keynotes etc had to be streamed across a couple of side-by-side lecture theatres. The President replied and said this:

"No, I wouldn't have thought so and it's not without precedent either for both LCAs and other larger and smaller FOSS events.

You could even turn it into a bit of a fun thing and use it to encourage
people to show up on time, or give the two theatres names, or have presenters run back and forth between them, or...

Just my $0.20 - I'll defer to Kathy for her take of course"

Which is kinda pleasing to know because as far as I can tell, UC has a tick in every other box for running an LCA event.

I'll pursue this further...

Cheers,

Steven

Stumbled across the LinuxConf2017 (Hobart)'s bid document....

Gives a bit of goal post to aim for.

    Hi everyone,

I'm looking at the possibility of having an LCA event hosted here in
Christchurch possibly in 2019 or maybe 2020.

I am wondering who out there would like to be part of a team to help
bring the first ever LCA to Christchurch. If you have ever been to
an LCA before you'll be aware just how exciting they are!

I have been talking with Linux Australia and the organiser of LCA
when it was in Auckland and there is definite interest in having an
LCA here. We just need to make it happen.

This venture has the support of the university.

Check out previous LCA events here: https://linux.org.au/LCA

    Cheers,
