OK, let me add my very strong agreement too. I'd actually go
so far as to equal utf-8 support with _text support_. Any
application that does not have Unicode support in the form
of utf-8 out of the box does not fully support text.

(E.g. the web browsers Opera and Amaya do not fully support
text, which of course should be first on the list of
absolutely necessary features of any web browser.)

But I do not want this to be criticism of Vim 6. It's
great, and apart from the need to explicitly ask for the
utf-8 support at compile time, Vim 6 is just what a text
editor should be.
