I've seen in the archives of this mailling list a tip to make a
locale that will use transliteration. The trick is to compile the
locale with the "-f ASCII" option, and that will trigger the
support for transliteration. It seems that for this to work the
locale has to have a "translit_start...translit_end" part in the
LC_CTYPE section.
I'm trying to do this for the macedonian locale. I copied the
cyrillic -> latin transliteration from the sr_YU locale into the
macedonian (mk_MK) locale.
Then I'm trying the command:
localedef -i ./mk_MK.new -f ASCII mk_MK.ASCII
Unfortunately localedef complains about unknown characters for
every line of mk_MK.new that has a cyrillic character, and off
course nothing is done.
Trying the "-c" (--force) switch of localedef, the locale will be
made but I get empty space instead of the trasliterated
characters. (i'm trying this with "date +'%c'").
does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
My platform is:
Slackware 8.1, glibc 2.2.5.
