a lot of trouble, multibyte support on console is quite bad.

On utf-8 mode you can no longer use non-ascii keysyms (that is,
"currency" and the like cannot be used); you must change
it to:

keycode  18 = +e                +E  U+00A5

(or, more likely to U+20AC if you want the euro)

then it should work.
