This seems the easier solution and i think is what your patch does. But
it will be better if the kernel was able to compose characters with
utf-8 input to make it work with all scripts.

I know, but your "hack" works ;). Why it isn't included in the
linux kernel?. Maybe this would serve as the base for a full 
generalized imput method... Have you already tried to submit the
patch to linux-kernel?
