to me, delete-word is the stty setting normally set to ^W.
I don't recall seeing any xterm translations that mapped to this -
and since xterm doesn't have a built-in to do this (it's done in
the shell), I'm not sure. (I would go back & check the older
system to see what mechanism is performing the delete-word, and
see where that's implemented).
