Hi,

I have a large database of bibliographic material in varius languages.
Currently, I use MySQL with its default character set, latin1. However, I wish
to add entries in non-western-european languages, for which I need a UNICODE
database. I wish to set mysql character set to UTF-8, and not to any
particular language. Perhaps I need to define a fixed language for some of the
columns, to allow sorting using a collating sequence, but other columns, like
an article title, can be in a variable language (i.e, some of the articles may
have English title while other Russian). Is it possible to spacify a variable
language/UTF-8 encoding to MySQL? or do I need to use another data base (which
is freely available in linux?) I'll be much obliged if you could give me a clue
how to proceed.

All the best,

Zvi.
