Indeed.  I think by and large Unicode is a quantum leap forward over
the mess we've had up to this point.  One of the major advantages of
Unicode is that it can grow as a standard (unlike, for example, the
ISO-8859-x standards, where having to add a symbol to the European
character set meant creating a whole new character set) and by
analyzing the imperfections we can make it better.
