I contacted the bash maintainers several times and never received any reply whatsoever. I have given up on that front for the moment, but I warmly encourage you to follow up on this. As far as I know, there is no official bash support for UTF-8 on the horizon yet, only various patches floating around. Markus -- Markus G.
