OK.. But in that case, what is the point --at this moment-- of having unicode_start? The keyboard does not generate valid UTF-8 (apart from pure ASCII), but only valid UTF-8 can be displayed. So it seems that a 'console in UTF-8 mode' does not allow you to read your own texts. I must be missing something..
