Running debian/sid 2.6.18 vanilla kernel

Hello

I was in the market for a new webcam for my laptop. I was looking at
the Logitech Notebook Pro webcam. I notice that quite a few emails
have been exchanged in the past about this particular model on this
listserv. What is the success rate like? Have you guys got it work
adequately? Does it work properly in Ekiga, aMSN or Kopete? Also, can
I install the source using module-assistant or do I have to patch the
kernel and then install it? If the current need is to get more testers
and debug the currently existing driver, I'll get it in that case to
help out.

I would also welcome suggestions on a good compact webcam for use with
a laptop running LInux. I have got the Logitech Quickcam 4000 to work
properly but this is a bit inconvenient to use with a laptop. Also,
kudos to the develoopers for working on supporting webcams under
linux.
