That's pretty normal. Most V4L2 applications are buggy, and should be fixed. The main issue is that many V4L2 drivers are buggy as well, so application developers don't notice bugs in their software. Try to contact the MPlayer development team. They will eventually fix MPlayer if enough people ask them (nicely) to.
