FWIW, I would like to give a quick summary of the worst problems I found
when using a Logitech Ultra Vision camera (I suspect others have similar
problems):

  - when using a resolution of 640x480 (I used only uncompressed YUYV
format) the camera will basically cut the "effective" resolution in half
with frame rates >= 25 fps.

  - except for 30fps, the frame period is always a multiple of 40
milliseconds. If you request 10fps, for instance, you will get
inter-frame periods of 120 -> 80 -> 120 -> 80, etc.

  - at really high resolutions (1280x960) you get at most 8 fps, and if
you request the bayer raw data at 8 bits this will drop to 4 fps or
less, i.e., it is slower for the camera to provide raw data than it is
to provide "processed" data :P

  - if you connect to a USB1.1 port the highest uncompressed resolution
you will get is ~176x132.

  - I don't know if this is driver or camera related, but lots of times
when the camera is streaming video it fails to set standard controls
(brightness, contrast, etc.).

  - sometimes the camera just stops responding completely and needs to
be unplugged and replugged. I guess this is the "firmware hang problem"
that is alleviated by the reset patch (which I haven't tried yet).

Most of these shouldn't be too bad for "regular" webcam usage, though.

BTW, if anyone has different experiences and thinks that I'm doing
something wrong in any of the items above, please let me know.
