Hi all, well seems like streaming from uvcvideo/v4l2 is harder than I first imagined. With my old 4vl webcam I just needed vlc to live stream my webcam mpeg4 encoded. So far I found no application that I can use to live stream with my new Logitech QuickCam Sphere MP. uvc_streamer works, but the MJPEG bitrate is not suitable for the limited upstream bandwith of my ADSL connection.
a) VLC seems not to be able to access v4l2 devices, although I found this link http://wiki.videolan.org/V4l which suggests that v4l2 is supported. b) I tried MPEG4IP (mp4live), but the settings this program uses to capture the cam, result in a very bad image quality and strange colors. There's no way to change that. c) Now, my latest idea is to use transcode (which is supposed to handle v4l2 devices) and pipe it's output to VLC and stream it as usual (http://wiki.videolan.org/index.php/Uncommon_uses). But if I try to access the cam with transcode, I get the following error: # transcode -x v4l2,v4l2 -g 640x480 -i /dev/video -p /dev/dsp2 -e 32000,16,2 -w 4000 -y ffmpeg -F mjpeg -o test.avi transcode v1.0.4 (C) 2001-2003 Thomas Oestreich, 2003-2004 T. AFAIK the QuickCam Sphere uses the YUYV pixel format, does this error mean, that transcode cannot handle YUYV? Whatever, this approach fails too. Seems like I'm running out of options. Has anybody here another idea how to establish an MPEG4 live stream? Regards, Jörg. __________________________________ Yahoo!
