Is there a problem with email attachments on this list? I sent this email 3 days ago, but it's not shown in the archive so I guess it wasn't delivered to the members in this list, too!? I try it again, this time without the attachment.
Hi all, well, this is not directly an uvcvideo issue, but maybe somebody here can help or at least confirm this. If I grab/record from the built-in microphone of my Logitech QuickCam Sphere, I experience a strange clicking/cracking/snapping noise every few seconds in the recorded file. I attached a sample of what this sounds like, to this email (as mp3 file). Edit: Download the sample from http://forums.quickcamteam.net/attachment.php?aid=1 So far, I've no idea what could be the reason for this noise, but did several tests to narrow down the problem: I used different applications to record, ffmpeg (via oss device /dev/dsp2) and arecord (via alsa device hw:0,2), it makes no difference. I tried different usb ports. Did not help. I tried different machines with different kernel versions: - 2.6.18.8 (i586) - 2.6.22.5 (x86_64) But it happens on both machines. I tested this on Windows XP and there the noise does not occur, so I guess it's no hardware error, at least none that is triggered on Windows XP. Next I tested with a different usb microphone. I used the Logitech QuickCam Communicate STX (046d:087d). With this device there is no noise. So the question is: a) Is this a hardware problem with only my cam which happens only on Linux? b) Are all QuickCam Sphere MP devices affected? c) Are several Logitech models affected? So can anybody confirm this with their cam, please? The command I used to record from the cam microphone is: # ffmpeg -f audio_device -i /dev/dsp2 -f mp3 test.mp3 Best regards, Jörg Jetzt Mails schnell in einem Vorschaufenster überfliegen.
