There are two points about implementing autofocus in userspace which I'm
not sure about:

* An autofocus daemon/program will need to have access to the video stream
together with the program which uses the webcam. Is this possible? My
experiments with luvcview and mplayer have failed, the second program
always appears to get EBUSY.

* Ideally, the autofocus should only be active when another program is
actually using the camera, to avoid wasting CPU/power resources.

What are your thoughts on how AF could be implemented? So far, my only idea
is some kind of LD_PRELOAD hack, but that's ugly. :-/

Cheers,

  Richard
