Some more suggestions: * mplayer -tv driver=v4l2:width=640:height=480:device=/dev/video0:fps=30:outfmt=yuy2 tv:// This needs a recent mplayer. I'm having problems selecting any other format than VGA, though. Needs much less CPU to display the live picture than uvcview. * Also, motion 3.2.8 works. (The versions currently in Debian are too old.) It autodetects the type of device, basically a "videodevice /dev/video0" in motion.conf is enough. * Furthermore, a couple of video telephony applications support v4l2, including the latest Skype for Linux as well as ekiga (but do remember to install the libpt-1.10.10-plugins-v4l2 package for ekiga!). * Plus, specifically for MJPEG V4L2 devices, there's MJPG-streamer <http://naaa.de/uvc_streamer.htm>. * Finally, gstreamer has support for v4l2 and you can find some command line examples for certain webcams (e.g. iSight) on the web, but personally I haven't been able to get it to work with my Quickcam 9000. The command line syntax is rather complicated - maybe someone who has tried longer than me can provide a working example. vlc is missing in this list! :( Too bad, it's a nice, versatile tool. I hope support will be added sooner or later. Have fun! :) Richard -- __ _ |_) /| Richard Atterer | GnuPG key: 888354F7 | \/¯| http://atterer.net | 08A9 7B7D 3D13 3EF2 3D25 D157 79E6 F6DC 8883 54F7 ¯ '` ¯ _______________________________________________ Linux-uvc-devel mailing list [email protected] https://lists.berlios.de/mailman/listinfo/linux-uvc-devel
