I am using the Logitech QuickCam Pro for Notebooks under (newly
installed) Ubuntu 8.04LTS on an HP Compaq nc6220 laptop. This
setup
works "out of the box" just fine with Ekiga 2.0.12, Skype
2.0.0.68, and
luvcview 0.2.1. However, when I run Cheese 2.22.1, I only see
the test
pattern and "static video". When I run Camorama 0.19-2, I get an
alert
box saying:
"Could not connect to video device (/dev/video0). Please
check
connection."
FYI, I recently built/installed uvcvideo from svn source.
I apologize in advance if this is more of an application issue
than an
issue w/ uvc (which apparently works like a champ using other
apps
running on the same system). I'm happy to provide any add'l info
required.
Also, this is the second camera I have tried with this laptop.
Originally I tried using the Creative Live! Cam Notebook Ultra,
with
little advance research on Linux compatibility issues. Well I
couldn't
get it to work and stopped trying after finding a post within
the last
few months in the archives of this list saying that the camera
is not
uvc compliant. The only reason I mention this now is that I read
on
Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_video_device_class):
"It can be expected that in the near future most webcams
will be
UVC compatible as this is a logo requirement for Windows
Vista."
Well clear as day, there is a "CERTIFIED for Windows Vista" logo
on the
packing material of the Creative product. I don't know if the
Wiki
statement is erroneous or otherwise... just thought the
subscribers of
this list may be interested in this info.
Any help with the Logitech would be greatly appreciated.
Best,
-tm
