Your camera seems really buggy. The firmware crashes for no reason. If I had 
to guess I'd say there are timing issues.

If there are indeed timing issues there's not much I can do about it. It's a 
classic case of broken hardware tested with Windows only (although in your 
case the hardware reaches new levels of brokenness).

Another possibility (less likely, but still) is that the camera crashes 
because it receives an unexpected request from the driver, regardless of the 
timing. You could try to check this by sniffing USB traffic in Windows and 
tweaking the Linux driver to submit identical requests.
