The Linux UVC driver supports UVC compatible cameras only. To check if your camera is UVC compatible, read http://www.quickcamteam.net/documentation/faq/how-do-i-find-out-whether-my-camera-is-a-uvc-device-or-not For non UVC compatible webcams, you might have more luck with the gspca (http://mxhaard.free.fr/spca5xx.html) or microdia (https://groups.google.com/group/microdia) drivers.
