Sounds like you have /exactly/ the same issue I found with my machine -
different acer model, but reports as being the same camera[1]. (complete with
the "now it works", "now it doesn't", "now it works", "now it doesn't", ...
behaviour.

[1] It's conceivable that the different cameras may report themselves as the
same. I've seen that with SCSI hardware support in the past...

I also produced a fix/patch which fixes the issue however, and discussed it
here. Laurent asked me to look into trying with the latest kernel as well,
but I've (still) not had a chance to do that.

Anyway the thread is starts here, with patch, etc:

https://lists.berlios.de/pipermail/linux-uvc-devel/2008-June/003568.html

You'll note from the patch that the specific error it does a retry on is error
71 - which matches your luvcview error (matching the errors I saw).

If you could try that and report back, it'd be useful. If you beat me to
retrying with 2.6.26-rc5 as requested by Laurent, that'd be cool :-) (I've
simply not had *any* chance to do this since then :-( sorry Laurent!)

The above fix makes the camera work with everything I've tried. (including for
example video skype and random tools I've written)

Regards,

Michael
