I didn't know it either, my fault. I thought it wasn't going to work until I get rid of the error msg or, better, until I fix its cause, so I did not test with every program at every single attempt. > cheese uses gstreamer, which in theory should work. I'm using the last version in debian unstable, which is 0.10.20, but the only thing i get is a nice '70s-like test card with a white noise rectangle. > Does uvcvideo print any error message in the kernel log when skype crashes ? > Either the driver crashes, in which case you will get a lengthy oops report > in the kernel log, and the skype crash is then understandable, or skype has a > bug that makes it crash. There's no trace in kernel log, and other apps keep working after a skype crash, so it's probably its fault. >>> Maybe the Hercules Dualpix uses a faulty USB chip (I would be interested >>> in knowing the chip brand and model if you can manage to open the case >>> without breaking anything). Actually I've read someone suggesting in a forum that it could be a ov534. Today I opened it and I can confirm: the chip is labeled as OV0534-LB10, just like this: http://www.hardware.info/en-UK/articles/amdnZGpuZGKa/Hercules_Dualpix_HD_webcam/4 Thanks, bye.
