We are using a custom camera that uses an Alcor AU 3821 controller in
conjunction with Aptina camera sensor (UVC 1.1 compatible), we are trying to
control the camera by changing values of a few camera registers through I2C
using an extension unit on the camera controller. We do have a directshow based
solution in windows but are looking to migrate our development effort to Linux
and would greatly appreciate any tips or pointers on how to achieve this.

We are using Ubuntu 8.04.4 with Kernel 2.6.27.27.

If someone is interested on helping us with this we will happy to compensate
for your time and effort on a contract basis.

Thanks,

Avinash

I recently completed some extension unit work, probably similar to what
you're attempting. I could not find an official, authoritative source of
documentation, but in the end the API is pretty straightforward. A copy
can be found here:
http://simosnet.com/debian/packages/eeepc/src/drivers/linux-uvc/dynctrl.txt

You might also be interested in libwebcam and uvcdynctrl, available here:
http://www.quickcamteam.net/software/libwebcam
These can be adapted for your application or at least used as a reference.
