The Logitech HD Pro Webcam C910 (046d:0821) uvc / linux compatible webcam arrived in the mail today.

I plugged it into my desktop PC (Asus PST Deluxe V2 w/6 GB RAM and Core i7 920 CPU).

It immediately worked with cheese and wxcam on a 64-bit openSUSE-11.2. I have not yet tested any other applications nor distributions.

Resolutions I tried were 320x240, 640x480, and 960x720, ... but this webcam has MANY other resolutions available.

I used 'mpeg' output format and also 'auto' (not sure what auto was using). Clearly the webcam is compatible with Linux. As to what features are available, I do not know enough about the web camera at this time to say. I can say it shows a picture at very very good quality.

The "lsusb -v" output is MASSIVE. So rather than put it in an email, I copied and pasted it here:
http://pastebin.ca/1967260

The basic "lsusb" yields:
Bus 002 Device 004: ID 046d:0821 Logitech, Inc.

I think it safe to say this webcam works with Linux, albeit the full range of features present in MS-Windows may not be available in Lniux (I don't do windows so I can not compare to windows and hence I can not say).

Hi,

OK, ... well, I went ahead and ordered it via mail order. :)

I figure if it does not work well, I have many friends who use MS-Windows
who would love to have it as a gift. :)

If it does work reasonably well, what will I have to do to have the UVC
compatibility list updated to reflect that the Logitech HD Pro Webcam C910
(046d:0821) works with Linux and the UVC driver?

Usually Laurent asks for the output of "lsusb -v", so I guess a little
report on the camera compatibility, accompanied by this will be
enough.
But that's up to Laurent ;-D

Paulo
