Yet I think I managed to make it work (it's not a module, but built directly 
into the kernel).

Please find a trace file attached. A started monitoring, then ran "fswebcam -v" 
and when it finished I killed usbmon sniffing. Did this on my 64bit box.

It would be easiest to get an usbmon trace
 to verify that the camera
indeed does provide an extra byte before marker 0xd1.
