hello. I have an issue with a netbook webcam that used to work
perfectly with uvcvideo on debian squeeze.

suddenly, the webcam is not working anymore. the webcam is recognized,
the device is created in /dev but no video is received.

lsusb identifies the webcam as

Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0402:5606 ALi Corp. M5606 Video CameraController [UVC]

issue is that, if I remember correctly, the webcam used to be
identified with differnt codes, going by memory lsusb used to report
it as "Acer something" with different id numbers.
I havent changed any driver/firmware/BIOS or anything like that recently.

Any advise how to try getting the webcam back to work?

So far I tried resetting the system controller of the netbook (an MSI
WIND U100) and repeadetly switching the webcam on/off (the hardware
key Fn-F6 to toggle the webcam still works, I can see the webcam in
and out in lsusb).

Any advise before assuming some kind of hardware failure?

TIA
