I'm implementing a driver on a synchronous link so I can't asynchronously send packets to the host. Instead I toggle a GPIO which causes an interrupt in the host. The host then knows to send a synchronous request asking for the packet. As long as the GPIO is set it knows to keep requesting more received packets.
