Hi Steven, You are not dumb. The serial driver was never part of net-next, but it was part of the old linux-zigbee kernel. I updated it a while ago, so that it could work with my modified version of the Econotag firmware [2]. I can find the patch here [1].
I intended (and still intend) to clean it up and submit it for inclusion in net-next, but real life issues prevented me from doing so.
